Library days

My favorite place on campus must be the Library. It's a beautiful old building from when the university was still young in the early 20th century. It is a perfect place to spend your day if you really need to get some work done. It is not usually too busy, except for exams periods. Then it is usually impossible to find somewhere to sit!

On another note, we had sunshine today. This is almost as rare as snow.

Still feels like holidays!

It's been quite hard to focus on school lately. Since we have exams in January, you get this vacuum for a week or so, where you don't have any lectures, and I am finding quite hard to get back into old working routines again.
Ah well, I suppose it will sort it self out in a week of so, but you feel kind of guilty when you are supposed to be learning electronics, but you would rather watch star trek :)

Freedom!

One of the best parts of being a student is the freedom. One of my friends dad told me this. He is now a doctor of some 50 years:

"Never forget the freedom you have as a student, you will never have it again! You can do exactly what you want,  when you want. You might regret it afterwards, and you might choose to do what you are supposed to do, but just to have that choice. That is an incredible feeling that will be gone in 4 years when you suddenly have to start living and find a job."

That is why I went to the pub on a monday evening with some friends, just because you can.

Sunday life

I like Sunday mornings. Relaxing with a cup of coffee while you complete some maths you need to do, or watch a episode of Star Trek. In my opinion one of the best ways to start a new day :)

Also went for a walk today. Smack in the middle of Southampton, you have the Commons. A huge park complete with lakes and ducks. Always fun to see all the happy dogs running free!

Lazy Friday

Sometimes it is very good to just take a day off. Just wander around town, go for a run, do everything and nothing. It has been quite a while since I could do this with a good conscience, but i suppose that is how it is.

What is this white thing?!?

We actually had quite a lot of snow the other day. Snow in itself is not that fascinating, but how the how the entire country reacts that is fun! Absolutely everything comes to a halt, nothing moves, they even canceled exams, because people weren't able to get to uni. I suppose that is how it is, when you get snow two days a year. No point in planning for it really.

It was all gone a couple of days later!

Print your own plane!

Had a lab on rapid prototyping, or 3D printing, today! Quite fascinating technology, to be able to print almost anything you want. I know that some other students have printed their own plane for a project!

I want to print my own pink crocodiles!

You can print almost anything, using either plastic or metal!

The tiny machine on the top is actually built by a student, this one is a bit more expensive and technologically advanced

I wonder when these things become affordable for everyone..

"Hello World"

Hello World!
I am a 20 year old norwegian, currently studying for a Master of Engineering in Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Southampton in good old glorious Britain.
I have, after 4 months, decided that I could get blog so that people back home, and anyone else for that matter, could see how I am spending my days. I will warn you now, this blog is not going to be structured. I have the attention span of a sparrow, so this blog is just going to be as random as my head.
I just want to show anyone who wants to see, tiny bits and pieces of how it is to study a technical degree, and how it is to be a happy melancholic with a healthy interest in scientific progress.
So to anyone out there, have a good evening!
