Weekend in the old country.

Went back to Norway for the weekend. That is the good thing about being so close to home, it is quite easy to get on a plane and be home in a couple of hours. It was nice to just relax the entire weekend, and just watch the days go by. Also went to see Les Misérables. I thought the movie was great, and I have never seen it before, so it was nice with some cultural education.

How long is a metre?

It is quite fascinating with the science of metrology! We had a lab on it the other day, since as an engineer you need to be able to make detailed drawings of the components you want to build. To be able to get enough detail on them, you need to be able to understand how me measure things, and how accurate it is possible to be.
These days all standard units has a basis on the molecular level, or a metre being "the length of the path travelled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299,792,458 of a second."

We had to measure quite a lot of different dimensions, some down to the accuracy of a thousand of a milimetre!

Fruit and vegetables everywhere!

Every Monday, there is a market at campus! You can buy all sorts of interesting and exotic foods. I usually buy all my fruit and vegetables there, since it is quite a lot cheaper than in a normal supermarket, and the quality is much better!
You can also buy lots of italian bread, different kind of cheese and meats, fish and baclava. There is also a lovely old lady who sells muffins, fudge and other kinds of cake! I usually stay away from her though, or I think i would buy her entire stall :)

Spring is here!

I am used to snow and cold in February, not beaming sun and quite warm weather! I like this weather though, it is nice to get a change of pace.

Quite a lot of assignments and other things to at the moment, but I feel like I have plenty of time. This is not a good thing to be honest, I often find myself doing other things when I should be working.

Library days

My favorite place on campus must be the Library. It's a beautiful old building from when the university was still young in the early 20th century. It is a perfect place to spend your day if you really need to get some work done. It is not usually too busy, except for exams periods. Then it is usually impossible to find somewhere to sit!

On another note, we had sunshine today. This is almost as rare as snow.

Still feels like holidays!

It's been quite hard to focus on school lately. Since we have exams in January, you get this vacuum for a week or so, where you don't have any lectures, and I am finding quite hard to get back into old working routines again.
Ah well, I suppose it will sort it self out in a week of so, but you feel kind of guilty when you are supposed to be learning electronics, but you would rather watch star trek :)

Freedom!

One of the best parts of being a student is the freedom. One of my friends dad told me this. He is now a doctor of some 50 years:

"Never forget the freedom you have as a student, you will never have it again! You can do exactly what you want,  when you want. You might regret it afterwards, and you might choose to do what you are supposed to do, but just to have that choice. That is an incredible feeling that will be gone in 4 years when you suddenly have to start living and find a job."

That is why I went to the pub on a monday evening with some friends, just because you can.
